I had one wordpress blog that must have got scrambled when I moved my site to Tiger Technologies. It just felt wrong and WP Super Cache would get confused.
I knew I should re-install WordPress and use a different database but I didn’t have a good way for doing that. I could do it, I’ve done it before, but it wasn’t “a good way” and I was putting it off.
The other day when I was in the admin section I noticed, way down at the bottom where I never look, some plugins listed from wordpress.org. One of those was “WordPress Importer”.
I went to wordpress.org plugins page and the alert read, “Not tested on your version”. Then I read the authors notes and that read, “Updated a month or so ago…”. I figured I’d try it and see.
Installed a new wordpress blog with fresh data base. Named it the same as old site then added the number one to it (MyWordpressSite1). Used the same username, password, everything same as old site.
Using the plugin I exported everything from old site. Didn’t choose anything special, just export default. Imported to new site, again just import default… aaannd Bingo!
After checking database, Opened FileZilla, added a 2 on the end of the old directory (MyWordpressSite2) and took the 1 off the new directory (MyWordpressSite). Then I took the 2 out of the database “Options: site url, home etc”.
Go through Settings in wordpress admin making sure the permalinks settings are the same, change anything else, settings wise, and – New Site.
So here’s the plugin info:
Import posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, tags and more from a WordPress export file.
