Paper beliefs

I like people

Who are facing death, which makes them alone in a way they never knew they could be alone.

Who were laid off or fired and have no plan.

Who are watching someone dear go through a long illness.

Who despite all their training, have been forced to admit they don’t know why they’re here, in this body. They don’t know who or what they are, they don’t know where they’re going, they don’t know why these things are happening. All their paper beliefs have been shattered like the children’s tales they are… all there is to rest in is the absoluteness of knowing nothing.

These are people who are not anymore completely asleep.

These are people you can walk next to, for a while and say nothing or maybe say, “isn’t it crazy, all this that we don’t know the first thing about… isn’t it beautiful, this living and dying.”
